Symptom Management: In Search of a Model for Home Health CareSymptom management is used by individuals to monitor and assess their physical and psychologic state, make judgments concerning changes in their well-being, perform a treatment or action if needed, and evaluate the success of that action. Nurses must use models of symptom management to evaluate cues observed in the home health care client. Since clients are away from the constant monitoring of the hospital setting, they must be alert to symptoms when evaluating their health status. Several models of symptom management have been developed. A review of six models revealed two that would be applicable to the home health care setting.
