Helping families cope with the chronically ill child at home

There are an increasing number of chronically ill children being cared for in the home setting. The entire family of the ill child faces mental and physical stress. This article deals with the grieving process that develops in families as a result of caring for a chronically ill child. There are ways to minimize the negative emotional impact of caring for an ill child. The discussion focuses on recognizing problems and suggests interven tions to incorporate into nursing care plans.
