Factors Influencing the Successful Utilization of Home Health Care in the Treatment of Children and Adolescents With CancerPenn State Children's Hospital at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and clinical instructor in the section of pediatrics at the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine Because of ongoing developments in available therapies, supportive care, and medical technology, as well as psychosocial and financial considerations, children and adolescents with cancer are undergoing a greater variety of treatments in a greater variety of settings with a greater chance for cure of their diseases than ever before. Choice of venue for various components of an individual child's treatment must take into account the nature of the therapy, available resources, and burden for the child and family. This article will review recent literature illustrating factors to be considered for the successful utilization of home care services in the overall care of children and adolescents with cancer.
