Geothermal Care and Treatment: An Icelandic Perspective

International and cultural approaches to care and treatment provide a perspective and expanded understanding of care possibilities. This article provides a glimpse at the use of thermal pools created by volcanic geographic formations to treat psoriasis and arthritic conditions. These hot, liquid pools are made up of chemicals, seawater, and freshwater. Expansion is planned to the existing dermatology clinic and facility to accommodate the growing numbers of individuals choosing this course of treatment. The community health nurse’s role is an important part of this treatment plan with the facility employing several full-time professional nurses on its staff.
