Getting Ready for the Software in Your Future

David L. Rosebaugh, BS, MURP

CHAMP Software, Inc., Mankato, Minnesota

Recent changes in the home care industry such as the Outcome and Assessment Information Set (OASIS), the Prospective Payment System (PPS), and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) have provided an increased impetus for purchasing automated clinical information systems. HIPAA-2 will only increase the automation trend during the next several years. To thrive, a home care agency must see automation as an opportunity, not a cost, and as a promise, not a peril. Getting ready for automation means learning how to choose the right software, successfully implementing the software, and correctly using the software after implementation.

Key Words: software • automation • implementation • interrater reliability
