Case Management Principles for the Home Care Clinician

Laura L. Hughes, RN, BS, CHCE

North Arundel Hospital Home Care Agency located in Glen Burnie, Maryland.

As health care plunges forward into the new century, the home care industry is met with greater challenges with respect to regulatory compliance and changes in reimbursement. Managed care continues to grow, and there is increased focus by payors on home care providers who can meet the needs of patients in a cost-effective manner. There is also the expectation that patients will experience quality outcomes. Using clinical case managers and applying the principles of case management are more essential to the survival of home care than ever before.

Key Words: case management • home care
