Employment Screening: Risk Management Tool and Essential Compliance Utility

Jody Lentz

Home health care companies are under pressure to quickly hire the best people to care for a growing and aging US population. However, the litigation and regulatory environments have made hiring the right employees a mission-critical function. Employment screening, including background checks, aids risk management with proactive efforts to hire only those with suitable backgrounds to work in patients' homes. Background checks also address federal compliance mandates by ensuring that employees are properly licensed, as well as not excluded or sanctioned by any agency.

Key Words: background checks • compliance • risk management
