Mobilizing and Motivating the Front Line Manager

Kathleen Sullivan

The last few years have presented enormous obstacles and challenges to the home care industry. Between the growth of managed care and the erosion of the Medicare home health benefit, home care managers have been forced to reengineer their core business processes in order to maintain their equilibrium; often on the backs of the front line manager. This article identifies some of the key stressors affecting home care managers today and explores several options available to home care organizations that have proven useful in easing those burdens.

Key Words: care • home • manager • motivation
